The motivation behind starting Make It Slow
In this Idiocracy inspired timeline it feels like it is harder and harder to keep positive - and nearly impossible to not get caught in a doom-scroll at least once a day.
We know that creating things with our hands whether alone or in the company of others, can help restore some balance (...and if nothing else keeps us off our phones)
So, we've collected creative kits for adults to help you take a break, recharge, and explore new crafts - without you having to do a ton of research or leg work

Where we are located
Make It Slow is located in Lynnwood, WA - a city about 20 minutes north of Seattle by light rail.
As a new small business we are currently 'headquartered' from the spare office of our home (for now...).
You can find our kits available here (on this site), as well as at the various events we host or attend.
Who we are
Hello I'm Bri! In early 2026 I started Make It Slow, LLC with the encouragement and support of my partner (in life and biz) Tyler.
We wanted to create a local community for adults who enjoy making things and trying new hobbies because we both enjoy crafting/making things and feel there are not enough opportunities for adults in this area.
More about our 'why'
Working on small creative projects has been a way we re-balance from too much screen time and its how recharge my soul.
From talking to others I know this is a shared strategy and that there is a real desire to find ways to disconnect from devices and reconnect with our friends, neighbors, and communities.
Things feel increasingly crazy in our nation, in the world, and while it's impossible to not think about all that is going horribly wrong and what we are losing, I am reminded that it's also crucial to spend time thinking about what we DO want our lives, communities, and country to be like, and to take any steps towards that as possible.
This business is our attempt to try to bring some of our hopes for the future into reality.
Our Plan
-
Phase 1 - Now
Build out this online store: find artists and makers along the west coast and broader PNW who sell creative DIY kits for adults.
Phase ~1.5 is to sell at local markets and events.
-
Phase 2 - This Year
Work with local businesses to host workshops, craft-alongs, and other crafty events where adults can get together and try something new, catchup with existing friends, and maybe make some new ones.
-
Phase 3 - Next Year
Once we have enough confidence that there is sufficient community interest to support a physical location we can't wait to build out a 'third-place' community hub.
This one's timing depends on all of you :)
