When completing this kit (via hand sewing), I found that the needle could be tough to push through the multiple layers so having a thimble or a sturdy surface you can use to push the back of the needle to push through was helpful.

I also pulled out a rule and some pins to get the seems even but this is defintely not necessary if you dont already have some in your craft stash.
